Duke BIA Feature
Smiles Foundation began as an initiative for bringing free and affordable high-quality dental care to underprivileged communities in the Dominican Republic. Since our inception, we’ve successfully delivered dental treatments to over 5 million people (primarily children) who otherwise would not be able to afford even the most basic dental care. Our mobile clinics allow us to reach remote areas and people in dire need of various treatments.
Today, our organization has expanded greatly and we are able to help these communities with three primary services, dental clinics (both mobile and permanent), education, and Compu-Com, which educates Dominican youth on computer and software literacy.
Our educational programs cover a wide range of important topics including nutrition, abuse prevention, general health, personal hygiene, disease prevention, and family planning.
We are committed to providing access to necessary and life-altering resources for low-income families, single mothers, battered women, and at-risk youth. Our donors and volunteers allow us to continue expanding our programs and services.
Over the years our donors and volunteers have helped us to grow in a number of ways. Our most recent expansion is right here in the GTA with our Smiles in Action programs. In partnership with Improve Canada, we’re proud to offer affordable dance sport programs to underprivileged families and individuals of all ages and abilities.
Through this program we’re also taking action by providing settlement orientations for newcomers to Canada, and educating communities on nutrition, active living, primary health, and dental health.
Smiles Foundation put smiles on the faces of members of underprivileged communities by equipping them with the skills and knowledge they need to lead full and happy lives.
